Private environment

Private environment

is a software environment set aside for one customer, with its business data separated from that of other customers. It does not necessarily mean that the customer owns or uses dedicated physical servers.

Companies may choose a private environment to keep their system settings and data clearly separated. It can also support agreed maintenance and access arrangements. However, separation still needs to be supported by security controls, backups and clear responsibilities between the customer and provider.

An ERP system can operate in a private environment maintained by its provider. Updates, monitoring and backup arrangements can be managed for that environment under the service agreement. This helps the company use a separate business system with ongoing technical care.
