ERP Term
"Mixed Mode Manufacturers "

Companies with more than one manufacturing model (MTO, MTS, ETO, or CTO).

Mixed-mode manufacturers are companies that have more than one manufacturing model. The most common types of mixed-mode manufacturing are make-to-order (MTO), make-to-stock (MTS), engineer-to-order (ETO), and configurable-to-order (CTO).

  • MTO manufacturing is when a company produces products to customer specifications. This type of manufacturing is typically used for custom products or products that are not mass-produced.
  • MTS manufacturing is when a company produces products and stocks them in inventory until they are sold. This type of manufacturing is typically used for products that are mass-produced and have a high demand.
  • ETO manufacturing is when a company designs and engineers products to customer specifications. This type of manufacturing is typically used for products that are custom-made or have a low demand.
  • CTO manufacturing is when a company produces configurable products to customer specifications. This type of manufacturing is typically used for products that can be mass-produced but have a lot of customization options.
